The Romanian Orthodox Parish in Luton celebrated its tenth anniversary on November 13, 2021. Last Sunday, the anniversary was marked during a festive Divine Liturgy celebrated by Metropolitan Iosif of Western and Southern Europe.
“All these years have been a time of patience for the church because only this year was it possible to obtain its place of worship,” His Eminence Metropolitan Iosif said during his sermon on November 28, 2021.
“But we must not forget,” the Romanian Metropolitan continued, “that when you have a priest, you have a Church – even if you do not have a church built. The church is not made of stones, clay bricks, but the living stones that are we, that are you.”
During the Divine Liturgy, the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe ordained Radu Amariei to the diaconate on behalf of Luton Parish. He also appointed Father Cosmin Mureșan a spiritual father.
The parish priest Ioan Nazarcu thanked the Metropolitan for the service and urged everyone to pursuit Christ.
“We Orthodox Christians must share Christ with a world that is moving further and further away from Him, sinking into so much pain and turmoil.”
“And the only way out, as Saint Sophrony of Essex teaches us, is to find in us the wisdom, the determination not to live by the ideas of this world, but to follow Christ. So let us follow Him not from the outside, but the inside,” the parish priest urged.
Located in the vicinity of London, the city of Luton is locally recognized for its religious diversity. There are no less than fifteen mosques, one hundred and fifty different Christian denominations, two Hindu temples and a synagogue.
