Romania opens new honorary consulate in Ruse, strengthening bilateral ties with Bulgaria

Romania inaugurated a new honorary consulate on Friday in the city of Ruse, the fourth of its kind in Bulgaria after those in Burgas, Silistra, and Plovdiv, reports Agerpres.

The event marks a new stage in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, said Romania’s ambassador to Sofia, Brândușa Predescu, who attended the ceremony.

“This new honorary consulate is a clear expression of the Romanian state’s sincere desire and interest to build, expand, and enrich the already very good relations Romania enjoys with Bulgaria,” Ambassador Predescu told Agerpres.

The new honorary consul is Victor Gugușev, Chairman of the Board of the Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and a senior partner in a law firm specializing in cross-border legal consultancy and international mergers and acquisitions, according to the Bulgarian news agency BTA.

The consular district will cover the Ruse, Pleven, and Veliko Tarnovo regions.

A symbolic location

Ambassador Predescu highlighted the symbolic significance of choosing Ruse as the location for the new consulate.

“Here, more than anywhere else in Bulgaria, Romanian and Bulgarian history intertwine harmoniously. We share a common present and a future that will connect us even more through the upcoming Giurgiu–Ruse bridge and through cross-border cooperation within the Danubius Euroregion,” she said.

The inauguration ceremony brought together numerous officials and representatives from diplomatic and economic circles, including Bulgaria’s ambassador to Bucharest Radko Vlaikov, Ruse Mayor Pencho Milkov, regional governor Dragomir Draganov, and Liliana Ganceva, Executive Director of the Danubius Euroregion Association.

In conclusion, Ambassador Predescu expressed gratitude to the Bulgarian Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their support in establishing the new consulate, commending the “intense and friendly” cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
