Replica of Kato Xenia Monastery to be built in Cluj-Napoca

His Eminence Metropolitan Andrei of Cluj, Maramures and Salaj blessed the foundation stone for a new church that will replicate the architectural style of the Greek Monastery of Kato Xenia where a part of the Holy Cincture (Holy Belt) of the Mother of God is kept.

The Metropolitan of Cluj officiated the blessing service on the feast of the Nativity of St John the Forerunner, June 24, 2023.

The new place of worship will be built in the Europa district of Cluj-Napoca in northwestern Romania and will be dedicated to the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist.

Saint John the Baptist parish was established on October 1, 2013, to serve the “Europa” neighbourhood of Cluj-Napoca. The area has experienced increased real estate and demographic development in recent years.

Until the church is completed, services are held in a chapel consecrated in 2014 by Metropolitan Andrei.

Since its establishment, the parish community has been shepherded by priest Cosmin Vele, editor and producer of shows at Radio Renașterea since 2002.
