Tomorrow, 19 July 2015, it is four years since the passing away of Father Arsenie Papacioc. On this occasion, a remembrance service was celebrated at his grave at “Saint Mary” – Techirghiol monastery.
The remembrance service was celebrated at “Saint Mary” – Techirghiol Monastery, patriarchal stavropighia (monastery of another eparchy subordinated to the Patriarchate of Bucharest), by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, together with His Eminence Teodosie, Archbishop of Tomis, assisted by a group of priests and deacons – according to Archimandrite Cleopa Nistor, Patriarchal Counsellor.
To end with, the Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church delivered a sermon in which he evoked the personality of father Arsenie Papacioc.
On this occasion, the Archbishop of Tomis has also delivered a speech.
Then, they all went to the grave of father Arsenie where a Trisaghion was celebrated followed by the “Eternal Remembrance” chant.
Father Arsenie Papacioc has also been remembered at the Divine Liturgy celebrated in the church of “Saint Mary” – Techirghiol by abbot Andrei of Devent Monastery, disciple of Father Arsenie, assisted by a group of priests and deacons.
Archimandrite Arsenie Papacioc, one of the most important father confessors of the Romanian Orthodoxy, was born on 13 August 1914, in Misleanu village, Perieti commune, county of Ialomita. The civil name of father Arsenie was Anghel. In 1932, he graduated the School of Arts and Professions of Bucharest. He is received as “brother” at Cozia Monastery in 1947 and passes through several tasks at Cioclovina Skete, county of Gorj (1948 – 1949) and at Sihastria Monastery (1949). He was tonsured into monasticism at Antim Monastery of Bucharest (1950), and ordained priest for the Monastery of Slatina (26 September 1950). He is arrested on 14 June 1958 and sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment for “having plot against the social order”. Thus, he passes through the prisons of Brasov, Aiud and Jilava, and is released in 1964. Once out of prison he is appointed priest in Transylvania; he was abbot of Cozia Monastery for a time, and in 1976 he becomes father confessor of Saint Mary Monastery of Techirghiol.
