Queen Ana Was Buried in the New Royal Necropolis at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of Curtea de Argeş

Queen Ana of Romania was taken on her last way on 13 August 2016. Her Majesty was buried in the new Royal Necropolis from the Archdiocesan Cathedral of Curtea de Argeş.

The religious service was celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Nifon, Archbishop of Targoviste, together with His Eminence Iosif, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe, and His Eminence Calinic, Archbishop of Argeş and Muscel.

Besides Her Royal Highness Margareta, Princess Heiress, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, the following persons were also present at the funerals of Her Majesty Queen Ana of Romania: His Royal Highness Prince Radu, Her Royal Highness Princess Elena, His Excellency Mr Alexander Philips Nixon, Her Royal Highness Princess Sofia, Her Royal Highness Princess Maria, Mr Nicolae Medforth-Mills, and Miss Elisabeta Maria Biarneix, members of the Imperial Families of Russia, Austria, Germany, as well as members of the royal families of other European countries. Together with the local and county officials, His Eminence Ioan Robu, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Bucharest has also participated on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church.

More than 10,000 people attended.

After the funeral service, a private ceremony followed when the body was laid in a crypt in the new Archdiocesan Cathedral.

The previous royal burial at Curtea de Argeş was that of Queen Maria, on 24 July 1938.

Queen Ana was born on 18 September 1923 and passed away on 1 August 2016, in Switzerland. His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania transmitted a message to the Royal Family at this sad time.

The body of Queen Ana was brought to Romania on 9 August 2016, and laid at Peleş Castle, Sinaia. There, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel paid the last homage on Wednesday, 10 August 2016.

From Wednesday night until Saturday noon, 13 August 2016, Her Majesty laid in state at the Royal Palace in Bucharest. The Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church celebrated a solemn commemoration service before the departure of the burial procession.
