Preventive Healthcare and Health Education Program for a Thousand Children in 2016

Almost a thousand children from Ilfov and Prahova Counties benefited last year from the Preventive Healthcare and Health Education Program. The volunteers of the Chapel of the National Cathedral carried out the program from 4 August to 5 December 2016.

The need for a program dealing with preventive healthcare and health education was observed during the Health for villages Campaign, which is the fruit of the cooperation between the Romanian Patriarchate and the Romanian Ministry of Health.

This new preventive program aimed at reducing the incidence of disease, improving living standards and reducing financial problems, especially in rural areas. These actions were made possible through cooperation with parishes, schools and local public administration.

Volunteers went to the targeted localities, where they held information sessions for preventive health care in several specialties:

  • Dentistry;
  • Nutrition and Metabolism;
  • Paediatric psychiatry;
  • Medical recovery;
  • Hygiene and public health.

Children underwent formal and informal learning, were encouraged to ask questions and find out important aspects regarding their health state. All children received oral hygiene kits from the program sponsor, Carrefour Romania.
