President Klaus Iohannis visits headquarters of Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy for first time

On Sunday His Excellency the President of Romania, Klaus Werner Iohannis, visited for the first time the headquarters of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy.

The Romanian president is currently on a state visit to Italy until October 17. It is the first state visit of a Romanian president in Italy in 45 years.

The visit is occasioned by the 1918 Great Union Centennial and by the 10th anniversary of the Romania-Italy Consolidated Strategic Partnership.

On Sunday, President Klaus Iohannis and his wife Carmen Iohannis met with His Grace Bishop Siluan of Italy and the Assistant Bishop to the Romanian Diocese of Italy, His Grace Atanasie of Bogdania.

The presidential couple visited the Diocesan Chapel of the Dormition of the Theotokos.

Talks were held at the official meeting room of the Diocese.

The meeting was attended by Romania’s Ambassador to Italy George Gabriel Bologan, the Romanian Ambassador to the Holy See Petru Zapîrțan, Presidential Counsellors Sergiu Nistor and Bogdan Aurescu.

Representatives of the Greek-Catholic Church were also present.

On the occasion of his first visit at the Diocesan centre, President Klaus Iohannis signed the guest book and presented the Diocesan Bishop with the Romanian flag.
