Presents for the Children in Distress

Yesterday, 1 June 2016, the children from the Daily Centre of Saint Martyr Sofia of the Archdiocese of Bucharest visited the little patients hospitalised at Maria Sklodowska Curie Clinic Emergency Hospital of and at Fundeni Hospital of Bucharest.

Every year on 1 June 2016, the Child’s International Day is celebrated. On this occasion, the children from the Daily Centre of Saint Martyr Sofia of the Archdiocese of Bucharest marked the day through several social charitable activities. Creative activities and games typical for the age were held at the settlement and the children included in the programme of the social institution protected by Saint Sofia received presents from the Archdiocese of Bucharest.

The same day, the children from the centre visited the little ones hospitalised both at Maria Skoldowska Curie Clinic Emergency Hospital and at Fundeni Hospital.

Childhood is the most beautiful period of one’s life and today we were very glad to celebrate the Child’s International Day at Maria Sklodowska Curie Clinic Emergency Hospital together with the little ones hospitalised at the oncologic and cardiologic sections. We were present at the hospital together with Rev. Fr. Dinu Liviu Mihai – priest at Saint Stelian chapel of the hospital – hoping to make the children smile through the artistic programme performed by the children’s choir of Saint Martyr Sofia Daily Centre. We hope we succeeded, at least a little, in helping the children forget about pain and sufferance – Ionela Ionescu said (coordinator of Saint Martyr Sofia Daily Centre of the Archdiocese of Bucharest).

At the same time, the children hospitalised received presents from the Archdiocese of Bucharest.

Today too, the children from Saint Sofia Centre went to Fundeni Hospital where they performed a vocal and instrumental recital for the children hospitalised at the oncology section.

Child’s International Day is celebrated every year on 1 June. This day dedicated to the children’s protection (the day of 1 June is, in fact, the International Day for Children’s Protection) was first proclaimed in 1925 by the World Conference for Children’s Welfare.
