During its working session held in October 2017 under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch John X, the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Antioch made various decisions regarding the life of believers in the Orthodox Church of Antioch and All East.

In order to offer the Antiochian Saints as examples to be followed by the faithful, the Holy Synod proclaimed the year 2018 as Solemn Year of Saint Joseph of Damascus, glorified in 1993 and celebrated on July 10, and Saint Porphyrios of Kavsokalyvia, glorified in 2013 and celebrated on December 2.

It is noteworthy that during its working session on 4 July 2017, the Romanian Patriarchate Holy Synod included Saint Porphyrios in the calendar of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
