Patriarch Daniel’s 2022 Easter pastoral letter: Christ’s Resurrection is the foundation of the resurrection of humankind

In his pastoral letter for Holy Pascha 2022, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel stressed that “the light of the grace of the Most Holy Trinity, which links the Holy Mysteries of the Church with the mystery of the resurrection of the dead, the Last Judgment of human deeds on earth and the joy of eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven, is the light that guides the life and mission of the Church in the world.”

“Therefore, as we prepare for the feast of the Resurrection of the Lord during Lent, we repent of our evil deeds through the Mystery of Confession of sins, judging ourselves in repentance and asking forgiveness for the sins we have committed in thought, word and deed. Then we partake of the Body and Blood of Christ, for the forgiveness of sins and life eternal,” Patriarch Daniel explained in his encyclical.

The Patriarch of Romania used his letter to urge everyone to offer more help to those in need, including Ukrainian refugees.

“Let us show around us light from the light of Christ’s Resurrection; let us see the face of every person in the light of Christ’s Resurrection, as a holy Easter candle lit in the world by Christ’s love for humans; let us see every person as our fellow traveller towards the Kingdom of Heaven, towards the Universal Resurrection at Christ’s glorious coming (Matthew 25:31-46).”

“In the present context, marked by violence and much suffering in Ukraine, it is still necessary to increase prayer for an end to the war and the spiritual strengthening of those who suffer because of it.”

“Let us continue to help the Ukrainian refugees! Let us become for them the hands of the merciful love of Christ, Who protects them and gives them strength, patience and hope for their return to their homeland,” His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel noted.
