‘The Holy Great Martyr Gorge is for us today a great helper in times of tribulation,’ His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel said on Bright Thursday celebrating the patronal feast of the historic chapel of the patriarchal residence.
“As he overcame the demons who worked through the persecuting pagan emperors and conquered all temptations and sufferings, so he helps us today to go through the great tribulation of the pandemic that brings much sorrow and much trouble to the whole world,” he said April 23.
“Let us entreat the Holy Great Martyr and Trophy-bearer George to give us good health and much help from God to go through this tribulation, to show stronger faith, more love for God, the Church and our fellows.”
The chapel of Saint George inside the patriarchal residence was built at the same time with the current patriarchal cathedral during the rule of prince Constantin Serban Basarab (1656-1658).
