In response to the catastrophic flooding in Spain’s Valencia, Malaga, and Castilla-La Mancha regions, which has led to 95 confirmed deaths and left many missing—including 22 Romanians—the Romanian Orthodox Church, led by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, has extended a message of profound sympathy and support. The message, delivered to the Spanish public and the Romanian diaspora in Spain, emphasizes solidarity during this period of mourning and hardship.
The Patriarch’s message conveys deep sorrow for those gravely affected by the floods and acknowledges the extensive material damage caused by the torrential rains, which have disrupted communities and infrastructure.
Calling upon Romanian Orthodox believers in Spain, Patriarch Daniel encouraged them to support those impacted both through words of comfort and Christian acts of charity.
“We pray to God for the repose of the departed, the timely recovery of those missing, and the healing of the injured, standing in solidarity with the Spanish people and Romanian communities in Spain during this difficult time,” the message states.
This compassionate outreach reinforces the Romanian Orthodox Church’s ongoing commitment to international solidarity and support, particularly among communities facing natural disasters. The Patriarchate has a history of mobilizing assistance through local churches and calling for Christian acts of service to aid those in distress.

Message of Compassion After the Floods in Spain
The Romanian Patriarchate extends a message of Christian solidarity from the clergy and faithful of the Romanian Orthodox Church to the Spanish people, expressing compassion for those severely affected by the torrential rains that struck the regions of Valencia, Malaga, and Castilla-La Mancha in Spain.
These floods have claimed the lives of 95 people so far, with many others missing—including 22 Romanians—and have caused significant material damage.
We encourage Romanian believers residing in Spain to stand with those affected, offering words of consolation as well as acts of Christian support.
We pray to God for the repose of the departed, the timely recovery of those missing, and the healing of the injured, standing in solidarity with the Spanish people and Romanian communities in Spain during this difficult time.
