New Decisions of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church

On 18 August 2014, the working session of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church was held in the Synodal Hall of the Patriarchal Residence, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel. We mention some of the decisions adopted:

– The Holy Synod took notice, with great concern, of the Law no 102/2014 adopted concerning the human cemeteries, crematories and funeral services, a deficient normative act ambiguous in several regards, mainly motivated by the creation of the legislative frame for setting up private cemeteries, by economical operators, which do not properly regulate the issues generated through the new aspects appeared. This is why the Holy Synod asks the Romanian Government and Parliament to postpone the implementation of the law in view of changing and completing this normative act.

– The Holy Synod took notice with great appreciation of the result of the fund raising for supporting the Orthodox Christians of Syria organised in the churches and monasteries of the Romanian Patriarchate from the country and abroad during the first three Sundays after the feast of the Holy Easter 2014 and thanks the church units for involvement.

– Following the application of the National Union of the Road Transporters of Romania, Saint Martyr Hristofor (9 May) was declared protector (saint patron) of the road transporters of Romania.
