New British Ambassador to Romania on an Introductory Visit at the Romanian Patriarchate

On 16 September 2015, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel received, at the Patriarchal Residence, the introductory visit of His Excellency Mr Paul Brummell, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Bucharest.

His Excellency thanked for the reception and appreciated the good relations between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Anglican Church. Mr Paul Brummell mentioned that over 150,000 Romanians are registered in Great Britain at present, the Romanian community recording one of the most dynamic numerical growths.

The Patriarch of Romania wished the British Ambassador a successful diplomatic mission in our country and underlined that some of the pastoral and missionary priorities of the Romanian Orthodox Church are: the intensification of spiritual life, the development of social, educational and cultural activities, as well as a more sustained involvement of laypeople, especially of youth, in the life of parish communities.

Furthermore, His Beatitude appreciated the support offered by the Anglican Church to the Romanian Orthodox communities in Great Britain, and mentioned the role of the Romanian Orthodox parishes in the integration of Romanian citizens in the British society by strengthening their conscience of belonging to a community, and promoting cohesion and respect for fellow men.

Given the context of the pressing European problem of refugees coming from countries affected by armed conflicts and poverty, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel stated that the Church follows the evangelical principles of solidarity, hospitality and aiding fellow men in distress. In this regard, the Patriarch of Romania underlined the importance of cooperation between Churches in order to more intensely promote the Christian values for a common witness in today’s Europe.
