NBR: Numismatic issues dedicated to 140 years since the founding of Macedo-Romanian Cultural Society

The National Bank of Romania put into circulation, on Septembre 18, 2019, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin dedicated to the 140 years since the founding of Macedo-Romanian Cultural Society.

The coin has the following characteristics:

  • Face value: lei 10;
  • Metal: silver;
  • Fineness: 999‰;
  • Shape: round;
  • Diameter: 37mm;
  • Weight: 103g;
  • Quality: proof;
  • Edge: milled.

Obverse: the “Lupa Capitolina” (She-Wolf) statue, a symbol of Latinity also taken over by the Macedo-Romanian Cultural Society, and an excerpt from the society’s charter; the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “10 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2019”.

Reverse: the portrait and name of Calinic Miclescu, the Primate Bishop and honorary chairman of the Macedo-Romanian Cultural Society, and the portrait and name of V.A. Urechia, secretary, its founding members; the inscription “SOCIETATEA DE CULTURA MACEDO-ROMANA” in an arc and the year when the society was founded: “1879”.

The mintage of this issue is 300 silver coins.

The selling price is lei 350.00, VAT excluded, per silver coin, including the certificate of authenticity.

The silver coins dedicated to the 140 years since the founding of Macedo-Romanian Cultural Society are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The silver coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Dolj, Iași and Timișoara.
