The Romanian national poet Mihai Eminescu was commemorated on Friday, 15 January 2016, all across the country, on the 166th anniversary. In the Patriarchal Cathedral, the memorial service was officiated by His Grace Varlaam of Ploiesti, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, surrounded by an assembly of priests and deacons, in the presence of hundreds of faithful.

In his sermon, His Grace Varlaam of Ploiesti has said that Mihai Eminescu is one of the moral supporters of the Romanian People’s Salvation Cathedral.

“It has been spoken in the last years about the fact that in some press articles of his time, Mihai Eminescu ardently supported this national project of building the Romanian People’s Salvation Cathedral and, in this way, from a spiritual point of view,Eminescu is one of the moral supporters of this Cathedral which, despite all the difficulties, it is being built in our times. Many times Eminescu wrote in favour of the Romanian Orthodox Church, whom he brilliantly called «the spiritual motherof our Romanian People»”, His Grace said according to Radio TRINITAS.
