Musical Event at „Saint Anthony” Church in Vienna

Monday evening, 28 March 2016, a classic religious music concert was performed in the parish room of Saint Anthony church in Vienna.

The concert was offered by Mrs Dana Cristina Probst, classical music composer and member of the parish council, as well as by other artists.

“The performer presented the famous piece “Matthäus-Passion” (“Passions according to Matthew”, BWV 244) by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). While reading fragments from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew and exemplifying them musically, she showed both the musical and theological depth of Bach’s composition. The explanations alternated with live extracts of some fragments from “Matthäus-Passion” performed by Carolina Iulia Astanei (mezzosoprano, Graz Opera, Austria), Tudor Andrei (violin), Maria Magdalena Probst (violoncello) and Dana Cristina Probst (piano)“ Rev. Fr. Ioan Moga explained.

In the end, Rev. Fr. Ioan Moga, the host of the event, emphasised the relationship between the classical music and Christian spirituality, as well as the role the compositions of some musicians like Bach, Mozart, Händel etc. played in the life of certain great people of the Orthodox Church.

The musical event is part of a cycle of auditions and concerts organised by Saint Anthony church in Vienna.
