Metropolitan Synod at the Patriarchal Residence

This morning, 19 May 2014, the Metropolitan Synod of the Metropolitanate of Muntenia and Dobrudgea met at the Patriarchal Residence of Bucharest, under chairmanship of His Beatitude Daniel, Archbishop of Bucharest, Metropolitan of Muntenia and Dobrudgea, Locum tenens of the throne of Caesarea of Cappadocchia and Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Several themes will be discussed for two days, among which the most important is the formulation of the observations on the text of the Regulations of discipline and judgement of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

“Today, the main stress is laid on the text of the Regulations of discipline and judgement of the Romanian Orthodox Church, which can be improved, so that it should become the text of the Synod of the Metropolitanate of Muntenia and Dobrudgea sent to the Holy Synod Office as a contribution on behalf of the Metropolitan Synod”, His Beatitude said.

This text will be submitted to the Holy Synod, which will be convened in August, for approval. Some liturgical texts will be also defined during the metropolitan meeting, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel said: “We refer to the text of the religious service of the Saints Pious John Casian and Gherman of Dobrudgea and the definition of the liturgical texts, Troparion, Condac, and Sinaxis of Saint Martyr Efrem the New of Greece who must be included in the calendar of our Church in order to be celebrated in Romania, namely he must be assumed because it is a recent canonisation that the Ecumenical Patriarchate made at the request of the Orthodox Church of Greece.”

During the meeting, the metropolitan orders of “Saint Neagoe Basarab” and “Maria Brancoveanu” Cross will be instituted, the Patriarch of Romanian also said at the beginning of the meeting.

The metropolitan, together with the archbishops, bishops, as well as with the assistant bishops and vicar hierarchs of the suffragan eparchies make up the Metropolitan Synod.
