His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of the Americas presided over the annual meeting of Romanian Orthodox clergy from the central United States. The event was held September 26–27 at the Cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helen in Chicago.
The gathering brought together priests and delegates from seven parishes and missions. They discussed community life and pastoral projects in the context of the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate.
The program included presentations dedicated to prominent Romanian Orthodox spiritual fathers and confessors of faith. Among them were Saints Dumitru Stăniloae, Dometius the Merciful, Heraclius of Bessarabia, and Callistratus of Timișeni and Vasiova. Fathers Ioan Ioniță and Petru Neaga presented lectures highlighting the lives and testimonies of these newly canonized Romanian confessors.
Lay organizations also took part in the meeting. Adriana Obreja presented the ongoing projects of AROLA, the Association of Romanian Orthodox Ladies of the Americas. Meanwhile, Ștefania Nuțu delivered the annual report of ROYA, the Romanian Orthodox Youth of the Americas. She emphasized youth involvement in community life and in spiritual, social, and cultural formation programs.
Presbytera Andaluzia Mureșan presented a pilot program on children’s religious education at the Chicago Cathedral. She highlighted the connections between Montessori pedagogy and Orthodox Christian teaching.
In closing, Metropolitan Nicolae thanked the hosts for their warm hospitality and the successful organization of the event. He underlined the continuity of Orthodox ministry in the diaspora.
