Metropolis of Chisinau representative thanks Romanian Patriarch for canonization of Bishop Dionysius Erhan

‘We are here as part of the delegation of the Metropolis of Chisinau to bring thanks to His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel for the gesture he made for the entire clergy and the people in Bessarabia by including among the Saints Bishop Dionysius, who had a monastic vocation and a holy life and who gives us an example today through his lifestyle,’ Fr. Porfirie Dobre said during a Radio Trinitas show.

The abbot of Sireti Monastery, Fr. Porfirie was a member of the delegation of the Metropolis of Chisinau (Moscow Patriarchate) who brought to Bucharest a particle of the holy relics of Saint Dionysius Erhan for the celebrations dedicated to St Demetrios the New, Protector of Bucharest.

Fr. Porfirie spoke about his deep devotion to St Dionysius Erhan since he was born on the same day the Church commemorates the Saint’s feast, September 17.

The abbot said he learned about St Dionysius for the first time in 1996. ‘His life impressed me, because he was a self-taught person.’

The abbot of Sireti Monastery attended the uncovering of the Saint’s relics.

‘We found the Saint’s body incorrupt, with a pleasant fragrance,’ Fr. Porfirie said remembering the opening of the bishop’s tomb.

Bishop Dionysius Erhan of Cetatea Alba and Ismail was glorified last autumn by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, at the proposal of the Diocese of Southern Bessarabia.

Bishop Dionysius’ sainthood was officially declared October 27 during a ceremony led by Patriarch Daniel in Bucharest.

Saint Dionysius Erhan will be celebrated every year on September 17.
