Lower Danube Archdiocese donates school supplies for more than 4,000 needy children

At the initiative of and with the blessing of its hierarch, His Eminence Archbishop Casian, the Archdiocese of the Lower Danube again undertook the tradition of donating backpacks and important school supplies to needy children at the beginning of the school year.

According to the diocesan website, in the week before school started, 4,000 backpacks were fully equipped with notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, rulers, and other supplies, all of which were handed over to the parishes within the diocese to distribute to their children.

The parishes then distributed the items on Sunday, September 8, on the feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, or the next day after the celebration of the opening of the new academic year.

The total value of the aid given by the Church to the more than 4,000 children was over $46,000 (200,000 Romanian lei).

The Romanian Church is heavily engaged in philanthropy, it was reported that the Church spent more than $27 million USD on social work in 2018 alone.
