King Michael’s body, brought to Romania for final rest

The coffin with the body of King Michael was brought to Romania on Wednesday, December 13, aboard a Romanian Air Force aircraft.

Eight soldiers of the Michael the Brave 30th Guards Brigade carried the coffin from the aircraft and placed it on a catafalque in front of the Henri Coanda Airport’s Official Lounge.

The Army’s band played Romania’s national anthem and the royal anthem, following which His Eminence Hon Metropolitan Nifon, Archbishop of Targoviste, offered a litany for the rest of King Michael’s soul. The King’s spiritual father, Metropolitan Iosif of Western and Central Europe, attended the service.

The event was carried out in the attendance of the Royal Family head, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, Princess Margareta, Prince Radu, and members of the Royal Family: Irina Walker, Princess Maria, Nicolae de Roumanie Medforth Mills, Karina de Roumanie.

The coffin with the body of King Michael I arrived on Wednesday afternoon at the Peles Castle in Sinaia, accompanied by the head of the Royal Family, the Romanian Crown Custodian Princess Margareta, Prince Radu and other members of the Royal Family.

In the evening, the casket was brought to the Royal Palace Hall of the Throne in Bucharest, where numerous representatives of the state’s institutions and diplomatic corps paid their last respects to the former sovereign and extended condolences to the Royal Family.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania will lead King Michael’s funeral service on Saturday, December 16, in the attendance of representatives of several European and international royal families.
