INSCOP survey: More than 80% of young Romanians say faith is essential for a moral life

More than 80% of young Romanians consider faith essential in shaping a moral life, according to the latest Barometer conducted by INSCOP Research on a nationally representative sample.

The data are part of the ninth edition of the survey, conducted between 1 and 7 April 2026, with a sample of 1,100 respondents via telephone interviews (CATI). The study is representative of Romania’s non-institutionalised population aged 18 and over, with a margin of error of ±3% at a 95% confidence level.

The survey analysed Romanians’ perceptions of 12 values, assessed through a series of statements to which respondents expressed agreement or disagreement.

The statement “Faith is important in order to have a moral life” ranked first among the tested values, with an agreement level of 89.4% among the general population, making it one of the most strongly supported ideas in the entire study.

Among young people aged 18 to 29, support exceeded 80%, indicating that, despite social and cultural changes, faith remains an important reference point for defining moral values.

According to the organisers, the survey aims to bring relevant issues for society and public policy into public attention, contributing to the strengthening of democratic debate through the use of scientific and credible research tools reflecting citizens’ opinions.
