Husi Bishop spends Christmas night with homeless people

His Grace Bishop Ignatie spent his Christmas night with 23 homeless people at a social night centre in Barlad.

The bishop brought warm food and dined with the homeless. He listened to their life story and sufferings and shared with them encouragements.

“He served them delicious and still steaming food, and they urged the hierarch to sit on one of the cramped beds in their lavish room. Some told their story, others complained about the difficult life, and some did not stop to marvel that it was exactly them the 23 homeless people in Bârlad having dinner with Bishop Ignatie of Huşi himself for Christmas,” wrote Alina Darie for a local publication.

This approach is not singular among the hierarchs of the Romanian Orthodox Church. The Metropolitan of Banat celebrated this year his name day with the homeless.

The hierarch offered a warm meal, over 250 articles of clothing and sweets to the 35 people in the night settlement in Timisoara.

“There is nothing exceptional, for me it is normality and we should do such actions as often as we can because you see that these people are deserted, they are street people,” said Metropolitan Ioan for Press Alert.
