Greek Orthodox Church proclaims St Paisios of Mount Athos Patron of Signal Battalions

During a working session chaired by His Beatitude Archbishop Hieronymus on Thursday, the Standing Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church proclaimed Saint Paisios of Mount Athos Patron of the Hellenic Army’s Signal Battalions.

According to a press release of the Greek Church Holy Synod, the decision was made following the request of the military priests of the Hellenic Army General Staff.

It is known that during the Greek Civil War, Saint Paisios joined the army and operated as a radio operator in the Signal Battalion.

Saint Paisios of Mount Athos is one of the most loved saints of the twentieth century. Glorified by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in January 2015, he was added to the Romanian Orthodox Church’s calendar during the June 3-4 session of the Holy Synod.
