Her Excellency Tamar Beruchashvili, Ambassador of Georgia to Romania, hosted the event. Among the attendees were representatives of the Presidential Administration, Government, and Parliament of Romania, as well as diplomats, business leaders, and cultural figures.

Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church was represented by Protosyncellus Augustin Coman, coordinating patriarchal counsellor for the Department of External Church Relations. The Romanian Presidency was represented by Ana Birchall, Presidential Advisor.

In her speech, Ambassador Tamar Beruchashvili emphasized the strong religious and cultural ties between the Romanian and Georgian peoples.

“This year marks 375 years since the birth of Saint Anthimos the Iberian, the great spiritual and cultural figure, the common Saint of the Orthodox sister churches of Romania and Georgia,” she said.

The Ambassador expressed appreciation for the tribute paid to this common saint by the National Bank of Romania, which issued a commemorative coin to mark the jubilee.

“We perceive this fact as a remarkable tribute to the iconic person who established the lasting bond between our countries”, she noted.

Ambassador Beruchashvili also expressed her confidence in future collaborations between Georgian partners and Romanian institutions such as the Library of the Holy Synod, the Basilica News Agency, Basilica Travel, and Trinitas TV, aimed at promoting joint projects.

Antim Monastery, a Special Place for Georgians

“Georgian Embassy is privileged to maintain strong connections with Saint Anthimos Monastery, which is very special place for every Georgian visiting Romania,” she added.

“On the same line, I would like to express our high appreciation to His Beatitude Daniel, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, for his blessings supporting various bilateral initiatives promoting our reach religious and cultural heritage.

The Ambassador also noted the growing role of cultural diplomacy in Georgian-Romanian relations: the “Madrigal – Marin Constantin” National Chamber Choir recently added the most well-known Georgian medieval hymn to its repertoire, and Georgian artists are increasingly present on Romanian stages.

As part of the series of events dedicated to Georgian-Romanian cultural ties and the celebration of Georgia’s National Day, a special event was held earlier on Wednesday morning at Saint Anthimos Monastery in Bucharest, where a Georgian church choir performed both Georgian and Romanian hymns.
