Funeral of Archbishop Chrysostomos to be held on Saturday

The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus has set the funeral service of Archbishop Chrysostomos II for Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Barnabas in Nicosia.

The Holy Synod met for an extraordinary session under the chairmanship of Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos, as locum tenens of the archbishop’s throne, to determine the details regarding the funeral of Archbishop Chrysostomos, who died on Monday morning at the age of 81.

The Church of Cyprus will notify the Primates of the Autocephalous and Autonomous Orthodox Churches, as well as the leaders of the other Christian denominations, about the death of Archbishop Chrysostomos.

According to the secretariat of the Holy Synod, the Church of Cyprus will observe mourning until Saturday, November 12, when the funeral will take place.

From Thursday until the funeral, the archbishop’s body will be at the cathedral for the public to pay their respects.

The Holy Synod invites the faithful of Cyprus to join in prayer for the repose of the soul of Archbishop Chrysostomos II of blessed memory.
