From 2027, Bucharest residents will be able to take the metro to the airport

The M6 metro line, from Bucharest’s Northern Railway Station to “Henri Coandă” Airport in Otopeni, Ilfov county, will be inaugurated in 2027, Metrorex director general Mariana Miclăuș announced on Tuesday.

The announcement was made after Metrorex signed the contract with a Turkish-Romanian consortium for the design and construction of Section II of the Magistral, the one between Tokyo Street and the airport.

The companies have 12 months for the design and 36 months for the execution. the contract value for the second section is 1.3 billion Romanian Lei.

The construction work will be carried out by the Romanian company Somet SA, which specialises in underground infrastructure projects.

The contract for the first section, Gara de Nord – 1 Mai – Băneasa, has already been signed and work starts in June.

Bucharest’s M6 metro line will have a total length of 14.2 km and 12 stations and will be served by 12 new trains. It is a public utility project of national interest.
