Drama Metropolitan consecrates first Romanian church on Mount Athos dedicated to St Paisios

His Eminence Metropolitan Pavlos of Drama consecrated a newly built church at the hut of the Annunciation at Lakkoskiti in honour of Saint Paisios of Mount Athos.

This is the first church serving a Romanian community on the Holy Mount to be dedicated to St Paisios.

The consecration ceremony took place on July 25, the feast day of St Paisios according to the unrevised Julian calendar.

The church was also offered a second Patron Saint, the holy and righteous King David.

The building of the church of St Paisios began in 2015, while the iconography in 2017.

The hut of the Annunciation is one of the most famous Romanian kalivia on Mount Athos.

The V. Rev. Archimandrite Stefan Nutescu, who is the hegoumen of the kalivi, is the spiritual son of Elder Isaac Atallah, a close disciple of Elder Paisios.

The fathers from the Annunciation Hut have made many efforts to translate in Romanian the life and the works of St Paisios the Athonite.
