Famous Russian novelist Feodor M. Dostoyevski’s tombstone in Sankt Petersburg was renovated, ahead of the 2021 anniversary year, which will mark two centuries after his birth.

The works began this spring and consisted of restoration of the cast-iron fence, consolidation of the foundation, cleaning and polishing the granite part and treating the writer’ bronze bust with a protective solution.

The inscriptions were also updated with gold paint, including Dostoyevsky’s favourite Gospel verse:

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” (John 12:24)

The tomb will be consecrated on November 12, 2020, the writer’s birthday. Next year marks the anniversary of 200 years after his birth, which will be celebrated nationally in Russia.
