Diaconia Mission hosts summer camp for Ukrainian mother-child refugees

In July, the Diaconia Social Mission of the Metropolis of Bessarabia organized a summer camp for Ukrainian mother-child refugee pairs. The camp hosted 47 mothers and 62 children.

According to a press release from the Diaconia Social Mission, the “Bridges of Solidarity” camp included activities to strengthen the bond between mothers and children, such as hiking, pilgrimages, creative workshops, and crafts.

“I am delighted to be here. There is so much peace and tranquillity, and I can feel it in the air. I know that sometimes life gives us difficult trials that are hard to bear, but I also know that kindness and generosity can work miracles. Even when things are tough, good people are always by our side, caring for us and offering support. In my life, I managed to raise a son, and then, with God’s help, I adopted and raised three more daughters,” said Ludmila, one of the participants.

Recognizing the unique challenges faced by the mothers, the camp also offered them the opportunity to benefit from counselling sessions with a psychologist, providing them with the support they needed.

“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to participate in this wonderful camp. The fresh air and beautiful nature filled us with positive emotions, and the warm and welcoming attitude of the organizers made us feel heard and understood. My daughter is thrilled here, and I am glad we can mentally and physically rest. We are very pleased and delighted with this experience,” noted Ecaterina.

The camp, held in four sessions at a guesthouse in the Țipova Reserve, Republic of Moldova, was a beacon of hope for the participants. With financial support from Caritas Ambrosiana, the camp was able to provide a transformative experience for the Ukrainian mother-child refugee pairs.
