The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Moldova, Jaromír Plíšek, highlighted the role of the Diocese of Southern Bessarabia in community life during an official visit last Friday to the diocesan centre in Cahul.
His Excellency was accompanied by Daniela Dragalin, development projects coordinator at the Embassy. The delegation was welcomed by His Grace Bishop Veniamin of Southern Bessarabia, who presented the Diocese’s activities.
Bishop Veniamin emphasised the Diocese’s openness to preserving and promoting values in a changing society, as well as the need to uphold faith and evangelical principles “for a better world”.
He also pointed to the example of the Czech people, characterised by “dignity, courage and fidelity to fundamental values”, noting its relevance for society in the Republic of Moldova.
For his part, Ambassador Jaromír Plíšek expressed his appreciation for the Republic of Moldova’s development and his pleasure at returning to the south of the country, particularly to the village of Huluboaia in Cahul district, where several families of Czech origin live.
The delegation also visited the chapel of the diocesan centre and its administrative facilities. As a sign of appreciation, the Bishop of Southern Bessarabia presented the Czech ambassador with an icon of Saint Heraclius of Bessarabia and a book on the history of Bessarabia.
