Consecration Of The Romanian Orthodox Parish Church Of Aschaffenbug, Germany

Sunday, 12 June 2016, His Eminence Serafim, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Germany, Central and Northern Europe celebrated the consecration service of the parish church of the “Presentation of the Lord” – Aschaffenburg, Germany, assisted by a group of hierarchs – the official website of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Germany, Central and Northern Europe informs.

On 12 June 2016, the Romanian faithful of the parish of the “Presentation of the Lord” – Aschaffenburg and their shepherd, Rev Protosingelos Ghelasie Pacurar had the opportunity to attend the solemn consecration service of the churches dedicated to the “Presentation of the Lord” and to “Saint Martyr Ecaterina”. The religious service was celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Serafim, together with His Eminence Teodosie, Archbishop of Tomis, and His Grace Sofian Brasoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Germany, Austria and Luxemburg.

After the consecration service, the hierarchs present celebrated the Divine Liturgy on an esplanade specially arranged near the place of worship. Many priests and faithful from Germany and Romania, as well as local officials attended the religious service.

His Eminence Teodosie delivered the sermon in which, starting from the important veneration of the Holy Fathers of the Ecumenical Synod I and knowing the right faith, he urged the faithful to confess the Orthodox faith wherever they may be, showing, first of all, Christian love for all those around.

“Evloghia” Byzantine chorus of Bucharest conducted by Rev Marius Militaru gave the answers at the pew.

His Excellency Mr Klaus Herzog, mayor of Aschaffenburg city attended the event and congratulated the Romanian community of the hospital church of Aschaffenburg for having received the hospital chapel for an undetermined period. The representatives of the Catholic Church of the city also attended.

His Eminence Serafim awarded Rev Protosingelos Ghelasie Pacurar the order of “Saint John Chrysostom” on behalf of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, as sign of appreciation for the activity unfolded.

His Grace Sofian read the message of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel addressed on the occasion.

His Eminence Serafim delivered a speech in which he praised the devotion of rev Ghelasie for the community of Aschaffenburg and Wurzburg and showed the appreciation that he enjoys with the faithful over there and with many of his spiritual sons, among whom servants of the altars too.

His Eminence Metropolitan Serafim awarded the mayor of Aschaffenburg city, His Excellency Klaus Herzog, the Order of the “Brancovean Saints Martyrs”, the highest distinction of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Germany, Austria and Luxemburg, for the support granted to the Romanian faithful and his presence in the bosom of the community on several occasions.

His Eminence has also awarded gramatas of founders and benefactors to the faithful, sons of the parish or of other parishes, who supported the renovation, painting and equipment of the church with everything necessary, according to the Orthodox canons.

The place of worship was built from 1847 – 1848 in romantic classic style for the hospital of Aschaffenburg, with Wolfgang Streiter as architect. The religious services of the Romanian Orthodox parish have been celebrated here since 1996. From 2014-2016, the church was painted, the original floor was renovated, and the iconostasis, pews and chandeliers were set, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Serafim of Germany, Central and Northern Europe, under the coordination of parish priest scholar Ghelasie Pacurar, and with the sacrificial assistance of the faithful. The painting was executed in “al seco” technique by painters Daniel Nicolaiciuc, Siviu Ungureanu and George Vatamaniuc.
