The events dedicated to celebrating Saint Demetrius the New began Sunday morning at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest.
Starting at 7:00 AM, the holy relics of Saint Demetrius the New, the Great Martyr Demetrius the Myrrh-Streamer, Saints Constantine and Helena, and Saint Nectarios were placed on the cathedral’s porch to allow pilgrims to venerate them.
The revered relics will remain on the porch of the Patriarchal Cathedral until Wednesday, October 23. On Thursday, the relics will be carried in a procession through the capital’s streets.
This year, the pilgrimage will take place from October 20 to 28, and one of the highlights includes the arrival of the relics of Saint Lazarus, also known as the “Friend of the Lord.”
According to the official announcement regarding the schedule of events, the relics of Saint Lazarus will be placed on Thursday, October 24, in a special canopy near the cathedral, alongside the relics of Saint Demetrius the New, Saint Demetrius the Myrrh-gusher, Saints Constantine and Helena, and Saint Nectarios.
