Bishop Teofil urges prayer and charity for those unable to fast during Lent

Assistant Bishop Teofil of the Archdiocese of Roman and Bacău urged believers who are unable to fast during the Lenten period to intensify their prayer or perform more acts of charity.

The hierarch celebrated the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts on Wednesday at the Nativity of the Mother of God Monastery in Caraclău, Bacău County.

On this occasion, he explained to pilgrims gathered at the monastery the spiritual significance of the season of Great Lent.

“Today, during the Divine Liturgy, we also read the prayer of forgiveness, because during the fasting period this is the Church’s calling: to forgive one another, to try to do good deeds according to our ability and, above all, to prepare our souls to meet the Risen Christ,” the assistant bishop said.

“I wish that you may benefit from this season of fasting and that the Lord may receive the sacrifice of each one of you. If some cannot fast, let them pray. If others do not have time to pray, let them perform acts of charity.”

“Every deed we do with God in mind is received and rewarded by the Lord. And when we reach the day of the Glorious Resurrection, may you have the joy that the Myrrh-bearing Women and the Holy Apostles had when they saw the Risen Lord,” Assistant Bishop Teofil of Trotuș added.
