„The feast day of Saint Stephen the Archdeacon is also the patronal day of the deacons and archdeacons of our Church,” reminded His Grace Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishop Varlaam of Ploiești, secretary of the Holy Synod, at the end of the Divine Liturgy celebrated on Friday at the Patriarchal Cathedral.
„Therefore, today at the Divine Liturgy, there were more deacons than usual, namely eight, one more than those ordained by the Holy Apostles in Jerusalem after the organization of the Church.”
„We wish all the deacons from our cathedral and deacons in general much help from God in their holy service,” His Grace continued.
„Recently, the service of deacons has primarily been liturgical, but, fortunately, many of our Church’s deacons are also involved in diaconal service, being responsible either for the social and charitable sectors of the dioceses in the country, or leading institutions with a charitable nature, medical institutions, homes for the elderly, children’s homes, various institutions for the education of the youth, and so on.”
„This shows that they are of great utility for the diaconal or charitable service of our Holy Church,” added the hierarch.
His Grace wished many happy returns to those celebrating their name day and a blessed day to the children who, in Bucharest and other regions of the country, are enjoying the first snow of the year.
