The Metropolitan Synod of the Metropolis of Bessarabia held a meeting in Chișinău on July 28, 2022.
The meeting was chaired by His Eminence Metropolitan Petru of Bessarabia and was attended by Bishops Antonie of Bălți and Veniamin of Southern Bessarabia.
The activity of the Metropolis concerning the situation in Ukraine was presented. The Synod appreciated the involvement of hierarchs, clergy and faithful in supporting refugees, but also other persons in need in Bessarabia, and expressed thanks to all benefactors of the Metropolis of Bessarabia.
The Synod highlighted the social-philanthropic work carried out through the Diaconia Social Mission of the Metropolis of Bessarabia, the recent achievements and future projects in the health field, the development of preventive medicine activities, etc.
The hierarchs considered the research made on the canonisation of great spiritual fathers who activated in Bessarabia and suffered persecution in the second half of the 20th century. The members of the Metropolitan Committee for the canonisation of saints were confirmed.
The Metropolitan Synod noted the need to prepare the celebrations in Chișinău for the canonisation of the confessor priest-martyr Alexandru Baltagă in 2025.
The Romanian hierarchs discussed the need to intensify missionary activities for preserving, witnessing and expressing the values of Orthodoxy in society, recalling the latest decisions of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
The Synod set the missionary objectives and priorities to mark the 30th anniversary of the reactivation of the Metropolis of Bessarabia in 2022.
In the final part of the working session, the members of the Synod of the Metropolis of Bessarabia discussed issues related to the training of personnel and the clergy of the Metropolis.
