The Basilica Media Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate, one of the country’s leading Orthodox communication institutions, celebrated 18 years of activity on Monday, coinciding with the Feast of Saint Demetrius the New, the Protector of Bucharest.
Established on October 27, 2007, at the initiative of Patriarch Daniel, the centre has become a cornerstone of the Church’s modern media outreach and public communication efforts.
The media outlet of the Romanian Patriarchate includes Radio Trinitas, Trinitas TV, Lumina Publications, the Basilica News Agency, and the Press and Public Relations Office.
The centre serves as the concrete institutional expression of the Department for Communication and Public Relations of the Patriarchal Administration, in accordance with Article 38 of the Statute for the Organisation and Functioning of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
The Model of the Holy Trinity
All five institutions that make up the Basilica Media Centre operate under the protection of the Holy Trinity, taking as their model the Divine Persons who “give themselves to one another and work together in perfect harmony, while their glory reveals the holiness and beauty of their eternal love.”
In a message delivered on the Centre’s feast day, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel emphasised that the Basilica Media Centre “promotes sincere and authentic communication, becoming a space of trust and balance in a digital world marked by confusion, manipulation, and the pursuit of instant success.”
“Through its five components—Radio Trinitas, Trinitas TV, Lumina Publications, the Basilica News Agency, and the Press Office—the Basilica Media Centre contributes to the promotion of Christian values in society and to strengthening the spiritual unity of Orthodox Romanians both in Romania and abroad,” Patriarch Daniel added.
The Basilica Media Centre observes two annual feast days: the Feast of the Holy Trinity, under whose protection it operates, and the Feast of Saint Demetrius the New, the day of its founding.
