Banat Metropolitan welcomes “Friends of Together for Europe” at Timisoara Cathedral

On November 16-18, the ‘Friends of Together for Europe‘ convened its annual meeting in Timisoara, one of the localities designated ‘European Cultural Capital 2023’.

More than two hundred delegates from 29 European countries, including the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Romania, Norway, Germany, Portugal, Greece, and Austria, witnessed the event.

The programme encompassed attendance at the Vespers service, which was conducted on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral in Timișoara.

Metropolitan Ioan of Banat dedicated his introductory remarks to the significance of the evening prayer.

“This is how the Holy Fathers of the Church from the beginning of Christianity ordained to pray, by the light of the evening candle, when the darkness sets in and the light of Christ comes.”

“Tonight’s prayer prepares us for eternity. We journey with Christ on the path of eternity, on the path to heaven and towards the Kingdom of God’s joy,” the Metropolitan of Banat said.

In order to underscore the significance of cultural diversity, every delegation showcased the customary port associated with their respective nations.

During the opening ceremony, the participants could also view the ancient church art collection of the Timișoara Archdiocese.

The program included informative and debate sessions.
