Thursday, 29 May 201, feast of the Ascension of the Lord, after the Divine Liturgy, memorial services for the heroes of the Romanian people will be celebrated in all the cathedrals, churches, monasteries, cemeteries, road side shrines and their monuments in the country and abroad.
The remembrance of the Romanian people at the feast of the Ascension of the Lord was adopted by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church in 1920. This decision was sanctified through two other recent synodal decisions of 1999 and 2001 which proclaimed this day as church national feast.
At the same time Law 378/2003 concerning the regime of the war commemorative graves and works proclaimed the 40th day after the Holy Easter, the feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ, our Saviour – Day of the Heroes, as national feast of the Romanian people.
We underline the fact that the Romanian heroes, soldiers and fighters of all times and places who sacrificed themselves in battlefields, labour camps and prisons for defending their country and ancient faith, for making the nation complete, for the freedom and dignity of the Romanian people are remembered at every Divine Liturgy.
