Archbishop of Cyprus invites all local Orthodox Churches to participate in the Holy Council

Message of His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostom of Cyprus on the Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church

Having followed publicly issued statements of certain local Orthodox Churches on the convening of the Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church, we wish to state the following brief points:

The convening of the Great Council was decided unanimously by two Synaxes of the Primates of the Orthodox Churches without any objection being raised. This reality ensures unity and unanimity among us, which is why we believe that any other statement or proposal, at the last moment, jeopardizes this unity; those who are complicit—knowingly or unknowingly—in disrupting this unity will bear the burden.

If there exists among us all good will, and if we are inspired by the Orthodox Spirit of truth and our tradition, every potential issue that remains in the already-agreed upon Pre-Conciliar documents can be resolved promptly, so that the Holy and Great Council may have necessary time to also address bilateral matters concerning the Sister Churches.

To this end, we invite all of the local Orthodox Churches to participate in the work of the Holy and Great Council with a spirit of love, humility, and common mind, so that our witness to the world may be fruitful and effective in Christ Jesus.
