24 February 1908 – the future Archbishop Nica Antim (baptised Alexandru) was born in Bogzești, county of Orhei (today in the Republic of Moldova). Studies at the Theological Seminary, then at the Faculty of Theology in Chișinău (1927 – 1931), which awarded him the title of doctor; in parallel he attends the courses of the University Pedagogical Seminary and of the Faculty of Philology and Philosophy in Iași (1932); specialised courses in Paris and Strasbourg (1932 – 1934), in England and Lebanon (1934 – 1935). Becomes a monk at Curchi Monastery in 1935, with the name of Antim; then hieromonk and soon ordained archimandrite (1940). Eparchial missionary in Chișinău, exarch of the monasteries in the Eparchy of Hotin-Bălți, assistant at the Faculty of Theology in Chisinău, transferred to Bucharest in 1941; locum tenens, then chief of the “Religious Mission” in Transnistria, seated in Odessa (1941 – 1943). In January 1944, elected Bishop of Ismail, but the same year, the territory between the Prut and Nistru rivers (Bessarabia) became part of the former Soviet Union. Therefore, the Holy Synod appointed him Director of the Theological Boarding School of Bucharest, then Bishop locum tenens in Galați (1947 – 1950), Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch with the title of “Târgovișteanul” (1950 – 1973), Bishop of Lower Danube – Galați (1973), raised to the dignity of Archbishop (1975), serving till death. He published a series of works and articles. He died on 1 May 1994, in Galați city.
