More than 60 children from 14 Romanian counties and Hungary took part on Tuesday in the 21st edition of the International Semantron Festival, held at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Victoria, Brașov County.
The participants were welcomed at Victoria Town Hall, where local authorities hosted a reception in their honour. The programme continued with a parade of traditional folk costumes, during which the children showcased regional attire from their home communities.
The highlight of the festival was the traditional semantron competition, with every participant receiving an award at the conclusion of the event.
Now in its 21st edition, the International Semantron Festival in Victoria is regarded as the longest-running festival of its kind in Romania.
According to the organisers, over more than two decades, the event “has become a model for numerous similar initiatives subsequently organised across the country, making a significant contribution to preserving and promoting the tradition of semantron playing among children and young people.”
The festival was organised by the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Victoria under the coordination of parish priest Fr Daniel Smădu, with the support of Victoria Town Hall and volunteers involved in the event.
