Romanian Patriarchate, Foreign Ministry launch €50,000 aid initiative for Gaza Christians and vulnerable civilians

The Romanian Patriarchate and Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) have announced a €50,000 financial contribution to support the Christian community in the Gaza Strip, as well as other individuals and communities facing severe humanitarian hardship.

The humanitarian assistance initiative complements Romania’s ongoing efforts to support the civilian population in Gaza.

The project, officially titled “Gaza Christians Aid Package,” will be implemented between June and December 2026 in Gaza City and surrounding areas.

The funding, provided by the Romanian Patriarchate in a spirit of Christian solidarity and social responsibility, will be used to supply food, medicines and other essential goods to families in need, with particular attention given to children.

The humanitarian action is being carried out with the direct coordination and logistical support of the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv, which facilitated dialogue and partnership with Samaritan’s Purse, a U.S.-based humanitarian organisation with local infrastructure capable of rapidly converting financial assistance into direct aid and safely distributing it to vulnerable civilians.

The project is expected to provide direct support to approximately 600 beneficiaries through four main areas of intervention.

Food assistance will include preparing and distributing around 2,400 hot meals. Educational support will consist of 200 backpacks fully equipped with school supplies for children.

Medical assistance will provide essential medicines for the treatment of chronic illnesses and hygiene kits for 200 vulnerable individuals.

The project will also improve access to safe drinking water by purchasing and distributing 10 large water tanks.

Implementation will strictly adhere to international humanitarian principles of impartiality, non-discrimination, protection and beneficiary safety.

Through this initiative, the Romanian Patriarchate and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirm their commitment to contributing to global humanitarian efforts and protecting communities facing major risks, while maintaining open and constructive dialogue with all international actors involved in stabilising the region.
