Metropolitan Saba Isper visited the Romanian Orthodox Monastery in Middletown on Monday, where he met with Archimandrite Melchisedec Velnic, abbot of Putna Monastery, and Archimandrite Ieremia Berbec, abbot of Middletown Monastery.
The head of the Antiochian Orthodox Church in North America spent the day in prayer and dialogue with the two abbots.
“In an atmosphere of Christian love and fraternal fellowship, His Eminence and the abbots shared meaningful conversation, offered prayers together, and partook of a common meal in the company of the monastic brotherhood,” representatives of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America said.
Archimandrite Melchisedec Velnic recently travelled to North America to participate in the summer patronal feast of the Romanian Orthodox Monastery in Middletown.
Metropolitan Saba Isper and Archimandrite Melchisedec Velnic have shared a friendship spanning several decades, while Archimandrite Ieremia Berbec is originally a monk of Putna Monastery, one of Romania’s most renowned monastic communities.
