Romanian children in Luxembourg take part in Orthodox icon painting workshop

Twenty-six children from the Romanian Orthodox Parish of the Nativity of the Lord and Saint Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist in Luxembourg took part in a glass icon painting workshop held on 16–17 May.

The event was held at the initiative of Fr Ion Tîrgoală, parish priest of the Romanian community in Luxembourg, and was led by Nun Marina Muntean from the Monastery of the Holy Brâncoveanu Martyrs – Metropolitan Centre in Nuremberg.

The activity was primarily aimed at children aged 9 and above and offered them both an artistic experience and a closer connection to the Orthodox iconographic tradition.

The icons created during the workshop were blessed on Sunday after the Divine Liturgy and given to the children to venerate at home.

First steps in creating beautiful works

Romania’s ambassador to Luxembourg, Livia-Alexandrina Rusu, also attended the event and praised the organisers’ efforts and the children’s enthusiasm.

“Under the gentle and patient guidance of Mother Marina Muntean, the children took their first steps in creating beautiful works. With emotion, curiosity, attention and patience, each child brought his or her own glass icon to life.”

“For all those present, children and adults alike, meeting Mother Marina was a true privilege,” the ambassador wrote in a post on the official Facebook page.

At the end of the event, organisers announced plans to continue the project by organising a similar workshop for adults, following the interest expressed by parents during the two-day programme.
