Romanian ambassador to Cyprus highlights Orthodox ties during farewell visit to Archbishop George

Romanian Ambassador Dan Mihalache paid a visit on Saturday to Archbishop George of New Justiniana and All Cyprus, highlighting the close relations between the sister Orthodox Churches of Romania and Cyprus.

The meeting took place in the context of the Romanian diplomat concluding his mandate in Cyprus after five years in office.

In a message published on his personal Facebook page, the ambassador emphasised the relationship that had been built over time with the Primate of the Church of Cyprus.

“Over the course of these five years of mandate, we built a relationship of cooperation and, I would say, even friendship with His Beatitude, beginning from the period when he was Metropolitan of Paphos.”

“I am pleased that I was able, even modestly, to contribute to the strengthening and development of relations between the Orthodox Church of Cyprus and the Romanian Orthodox Church,” Ambassador Dan Mihalache said.

Support for the Romanian community in Cyprus

The ambassador also recalled Archbishop George’s visit to Bucharest on the occasion of the feast of Saint Demetrius the New, the protector of Bucharest.

Ambassador Dan Mihalache thanked the Orthodox Church of Cyprus for the support offered to Romanians living on the island.

“I once again thank the Orthodox Church of Cyprus for its constant support of the Romanian community on the island and for its openness to the spiritual needs of Romanians in Cyprus,” the ambassador concluded.
