Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese in UK marks first year of Archbishop Atanasie’s enthronement

The Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is marking one year since the enthronement of His Eminence Archbishop Atanasie of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with a liturgical programme at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of St George the Great Martyr.

The events will begin on Friday at 6:00 p.m. with the service of the Supplicatory Canon to Ephraim the New, whose relics are kept inside the Cathedral.

On Saturday, beginning at 5:00 p.m., Great Vespers will be officiated, followed by a spiritual discussion with Archimandrite Iustin Miron, abbot of Nicula Monastery.

On Sunday, starting at 9:30 a.m., Archbishop Atanasie will celebrate the Divine Liturgy, the central event of the anniversary programme.

The programme will conclude on Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. with a spiritual conference delivered by monk Pimen Vlad, superior of the Cell of the Entrance of the Mother of God into the Temple at Lakkos Skete on Mount Athos.

One year of ministry

Archbishop Atanasie was enthroned as Romanian Orthodox Archbishop of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on 10 May 2025.

He had previously been elected to the office on 25 October 2024.

The Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, together with the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Ireland and Iceland, was established on 29 February 2024 and forms part of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of Western and Southern Europe.
