Romanian Orthodox Bishop in Spain offers condolences after Cordoba train crash

His Grace Bishop Timotei of Spain and Portugal issued a message of condolence on Monday for the victims of the railway accident in the province of Córdoba, in southern Spain.

“We convey our compassion to the bereaved families, whom we stand beside, praying to our Lord Jesus Christ to grant rest in peace to those who have fallen asleep, to raise the injured from their bed of suffering and grant them swift recovery, and to offer comfort and spiritual strength to their loved ones,” the bishop conveyed.

Romanian Patriarch Daniel also sent a message of compassion following the tragedy, urging Romanians living in Spain “to offer material and spiritual support to those affected, through acts of mercy, prayer, and words of consolation and encouragement”.

The tragedy occurred on Sunday at 7:45 p.m. local time, when a high-speed train travelling from Malaga to Madrid, carrying around 300 passengers, derailed near the village of Adamuz in Córdoba province and struck a train travelling in the opposite direction, with around 200 passengers on board.
