Basilica Media Center celebrates its mission in service of the Trinity, the Light, and the Church

All branches of the Basilica Media Center operate under the protection of the Most Holy Trinity, honoring the Trinitarian name carried by the Romanian Patriarchate’s radio and television channels.

In the same spirit, the daily newspaper of the Patriarchate is placed under the sign of light, while the news agency—like the center as a whole—bears the Latin name of the Church: Basilica.

These names reflect both the direction and the principles that guide the Church’s journalists, who are called to promote the Holy Trinity, the Light of the world, and the life of the Church.

Basilica Media Center is nearing its 18th anniversary

Though some of its components have a longer history, the Basilica Media Center, as a unified institution, is nearing its 18th anniversary. It was established on October 27, 2007, at the initiative of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel.

The Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate, created in 1990, maintains relations with secular media and officially communicates the decisions and positions of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Radio Trinitas, founded in Iași in April 1998, began its mission with the broadcast of the Lamentation Matins. Today, the radio station broadcasts via 56 terrestrial frequencies, its website, mobile apps for Android and iOS, and also via the SoundCloud platform. Listeners can also tune in via the EUTELSAT 16A satellite, available across Europe.

Lumina Newspaper, with over 20 years of history, remains one of the few printed dailies still active in Romania, with an average monthly circulation of approximately 22,000 copies per edition. It is also available online and coordinates with the weekly Lumina de Duminică (The Sunday Light) and the bimonthly magazine Vestitorul Ortodoxiei (The Herald of Orthodoxy).

Founded in 2007, the same year as the media center itself, Trinitas TV was one of Patriarch Daniel’s first large-scale initiatives. Now approaching adulthood, Trinitas is on par with top national broadcasters, delivering HD programming, documentaries, and coverage of major religious and cultural events.

Basilica.ro: A Unique Voice in Global Orthodoxy

Basilica.ro remains a unique project in the Orthodox world, being the only news agency operated by an autocephalous Church. Founded together with the media center, the Basilica News Agency launched its online activity on June 16, 2008—on the feast of the Holy Trinity.

As it nears its 17th anniversary, the agency is recognized as a benchmark in Orthodox media and Christian digital journalism, publishing dozens of news items daily along with a wide range of catechetical materials distributed on social media.

A Mission Inspired by Trinitarian Love

For the journalists engaged in the Church’s media mission, the feast of the Holy Trinity is both a moment of joy and shared prayer, and a time to renew their awareness of the purpose for which the Basilica Media Center was founded. “To proclaim the communion of love of the Holy Trinity and the boundless love of God, glorified in Trinity, for all humanity,” Patriarch Daniel said last year.

“The perfect intra-Trinitarian love forms the core and foundation of the Church’s media message, while communion, the gathering and union of human persons in the love of the Holy Trinity, is the goal of ecclesial communication,” His Beatitude emphasized.
